The Sultan's Elephant { 64 images } Created 21 Jul 2010

On Sunday, May 7th, 2006, the final chapter in four days of spectacle and fantasy played out in the streets of London as the French theater company, Royal de Luxe, performed The Sultan's Elephant - based on a story by a Jules Vern. The extreme street performance featured the Sultan and his 40 foot tall, 50 ton, mechanical time-traveling elephant; as well as the Giant Little Girl, an 18 foot tall marionette with lots of personality. An estimated one-million people turned out to see the magical event in what some described as the cities largest public art event to date.
